Vendors at Phalombe market have expressed fears of contracting cholera due to poor waste management.
One of the vendors Ethel Kaleso bemoaned the failure by the authorities to provide the market with refuge bins.
She further complained that the district council does not collect garbage which lies in piles.
The development has left many traders in a state of fear due to the cholera outbreak across the country with about 400 cases reported so far.
Mavuto Matope, another vendor, told local media that they are often compelled to hire cleaners to maintain sanity where they display their merchandise.
There is no immediate reaction from the authorities as acting environmental desk officer for Phalombe district council, Fred Mphalo refused to talk to the media when contacted.
