Isaac Jomo Osman Sworn in as Blantyre City Mayor
Blantyre, Malawi – 14 November 2025
Isaac Jomo Osman, the councillor for Bangwe Ntopwa Ward, has been elected as the new Mayor of Blantyre City, taking office for a term of two and a half years.
Osman, who previously held the position of Vice Mayor, won the City Council vote with 15 votes, surpassing fellow Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councillors Eric Mofolo, who received 11 votes, and Joseph Makwinja, who garnered 4 votes.
In the same election, Gerald Lipikwe of Limbe–Chiwembe Ward was chosen as Vice Mayor, completing the city’s new leadership team.
Known for his remarkable journey from a street child in Limbe to a successful businessman, philanthropist, and football club owner, Osman has often been described as an inspirational figure in Malawi. He has pledged to focus on youth empowerment, community development, and improving municipal services across Blantyre.
Osman’s election marks a significant chapter in the city’s political landscape, as residents look forward to the implementation of new initiatives under his leadership.
